Two owlets gazing down through the pine trees.
We spent a long week at our family cabin this summer. Early in the evenings we like to light some candles and sit outside on the deck and enjoy the trees and the sounds of the forest. On the first night at twilight, we noticed a small fluffy bird sitting on a branch a few feet away. It took a few minutes to recognize that it was a baby owl. We then noticed two more and finally another.
The owlets were quiet and slow moving. Staying together as a group, they would fly from branch to branch and tree to tree. It seemed as though they were just waking up as they stretched their wings and adjusted their eyes to the last remnants of daylight.
Each night we were visited by the owlets as we waited in anticipation for their arrival. One by one we would notice they had silently flown onto a surrounding pine or oak tree branch, and once they were ready, off into the night they would fly.
